Electricity

Originally designed for a medical devices company, this revamped version of the motif has since been used on many occasions. When MAX5 was being released, "Electricity" was on the related web ads of discreet. When finalRender Stage-1 rolled out, this image became one of the most prominent "usage examples" - and it still is to date. But interestingly, when Mental Ray became a built-in part of MAX, discreet again used this image to promote these newly implemented rendering technologies, even though nothing in this image features any Mental Ray bit! In fact, this could be done with the standard raytracer of any 3D application as well - but probably not in the same render time ;-)

This image has been awarded a second prize at Animago 2003 (Professional/Stills/Illustration)

Last not least it became the cover artwork for two different CG magazine issues in the past, as well as a key motif for a US electric power company. Oh, and I almost forgot: the guys from NextLimit also used it shortly to advertise their awesome "RealFlow" fluid dynamics plugin. But you guessed it: nothing in this pic has ever seen a fluid dynamics computation. It's simple static polygon modeling! Want a poster?
